Concerning print quality ...

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 28, 2008, 1:23 AM
So among the things I've been learning from editing courses and being an intern editor, I discovered something about print resolution.

Up until now, I've been sending you guys pictures at 350 dpi, because of stuff I'd picked up in my print publishing class recommending that for our projects. Turns out, however, that 350 is the comfortable minimum for offset printing, whereas the maximum resolution recommended for laser printers (the kind y'all have at home) is a mere 200. Anything more than 200 is a waste on the average laser printer. In other words, I've been sending you guys huge files that you can't really do much with.

At least, I'm guessing you guys aren't taking this stuff down to the local print shop and making posters of fat and pregnant furs. And if you are, I'd better get my name changed.

Anyway, from now on, instead of wasting disk space for everyone involved, I'll be sending you a 200-dpi picture on payment, instead of 350. I hope that's okay with all o'dang y'alls.

Current progress:

1. Ty Furlong (I can has cheeseburgers) sketched
2. Dragon Steve (Before-During-After, three pages) 1/2 sketched
3.
4.
5. Toby Manic (Awaiting a concept)

Want to get on the list of cool people who give me money? Here's your chance!

Another random complaint.

Okay, seriously, people, what's with the whole Wonka Gum thing? Did none of you actually read the book or pay any attention to the movie? (Okay, I know you paid attention to the movie, but did you pay attention beyond "Hey, a girl just inflated!"?)

Obviously almost no one did, or they'd notice that Willy Wonka didn't release this gum to the public. In the book, in fact, he repeats several times that he doesn't want people consuming the Chewing Gum Meal until he gets rid of the whole people-swelling-up-and-turning-colors problem. You heard correctly; he wanted to continue testing until the gum was safe to chew in cramped quarters and non-stretch outfits.

But from the number of pictures of blighter-to-blueberry TFs I've seen so far, I'd almost think that Wonka had turned into the sadist the movies keep depicting him as (or possibly a closet inflation fetishist) and started mass-producing the stuff. Roald Dahl is probably spinning in his grave - moreso than when the studios decided to botch his books yet again. I shudder to think what the fandom is going to do if "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" ever gets the Hollywood treatment.

I mean seriously . . . I know furries are a bunch of fruits anyway, but does it really have to manifest on the outside, too?

Commissions at last.

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 18, 2008, 1:29 PM
Being the greedy hound that I am, I've finally let my love of money win out over my deep furry shame. That said ... commissions are available now, in lieu of requests.

Please keep in mind that I'm still willing to do trades with people, and I'll still make gifts for people if the urge hits me. I'm just a little strapped for cash (nothing dire) and wouldn't mind putting some padding between me and the cost of textbooks.

So ... the rules. Nothing illegal. Nothing hardcore. In fact, any nudity will be promptly toonitized, 'cause for me, nothing ruins the fun like having a potentially entertaining picture ruined by a pile of genitals and nipples ruining the view. You're already imagining it, aren't you. Perv.

At any rate, this isn't gonna be too expensive.

US$5 for the basic full-color pic like most of the ones you see on the page.

US$2.50 for an inked, colorless picture that you can have fun with.

Add 50% per extra character in the picture (US$2.50 for color or US$1.25 for black-and-white).

Backgrounds and props at my discretion.

I'll send a high-res copy straight to you for printing and what have you, and put up a smaller, less satisfying pic up here for everyone else to see. Payment via PayPal before the final product is sent.

If you have other questions, please comment; I'll answer and then amend this post.

Also, if you're wanting a conbadge, I know someone who can help with that.

I can't believe I'm asking this . . .

. . . but it occurred to me today that I like money. So I was wondering what people would think if I were to try selling commissions? I'm sure this goes against something I said earlier, but I don't feel like digging through my old journals just to prove myself a hypocrite.

I'd still take requests and trades or whatnot, just the requests would probably not be colored, or not as nicely as the commissioned bits would be.

And if I do this, what would be good prices for things?

Shadows

So I have this backpack. It's the kind that has only one strap, that goes over one shoulder and diagonally across the torso. And sometimes I wear it so most of the weight is under one arm, instead of pressing into my back and getting it all sweaty.

Anyway, I was walking to class today, with my backpack under my arm like that, and the sun was shining at just the right angle that I saw my shadow on the sidewalk and it looked very, very pregnant.

Just thought you'd all appreciate that.
